“Meneer Frits”
“Frits Philps (‘meneer Frits’) is the grandson of Phillips founder Frederik Philips. In 1935 he became a member of the board of Philips. During WWII the entire board of Philips left the country, except for Frits who decided to stay in Eindhoven. During his brief stay at a concentration camp in 1943 he managed to save some Jewish employees of Phillips from deportation to a Nazi death camp. Meneer Frits was loved by the entire city of Eindhoven. I decided to portray him with his trademark smile and teeth”.
