"Brabants Mèske"

"I see this illustration as the embodiment of Brabant, built out of patterns of Brabants-bont, similarly to pop-art using patterns of red dots to create a pinkish shade. My aim was to design an iconic “Brabants Mèske”, like Zeelanders have their own “Zeeuws Meisje”. Somewhere during the process, I was in doubt about the way she looked. Maybe she should smile more, but in the end, this is my way of creating a new face and expression, while playing with abstraction and imagination. I hope that people from Brabant feel association with the female portrayal of their origin".
